14 Christmas Events You Don’t Want to Miss!

It’s the most wonderful time of the year, especially if you live in or are visiting the Niagara Region. There’s something for everybody from winery open houses, candlelight strolls to multiple Santa Claus parades! We’ve put together our top picks to keep you in the holiday spirit and enjoy the best Niagara has to offer! Best of all, some of these events are FREE!

1. Annual Christmas Open House – Nov 16 & 17

The sights, smells and sounds of Christmas will greet you when you attend The Watering Can’s annual holiday open house. You are welcome to participate in a workshop with a donation to Hospice while sipping a glass of Vineland Estates wine. Stroll around while enjoying the music from a live violinist and being inspired by seasonal creations.

3. Christmas in the Village – November 23

Kick off the holiday season by enjoying a traditional tree lighting in Jordan Village, a Santa flash mob and carolling! Enjoy hot chocolate, mulled wine, Christmas cocktails and treats.

4. Stuffed! 2018 Holiday Shopping Event – Nov 23 & 24

All of your holiday shopping in one place! Get your handmade local stuffing stuffers crossed off your list at this annual shopping event in Hamilton.

5. CP Holiday Train – Nov 28

Launched in 1999, The CP Holiday Train program has since raised more than C$14.5 million and gathered 4.3 million pounds of food for communities along CP’s routes in Canada and the United States. Every pound and dollar raised at each stop stays with the local food bank to help feed those in need in that community.

Attendees are asked to bring money or a heart-healthy donation for Hamilton Food Share.

6. Niagara-on-the-Lake Candlelight Stroll – Nov 30

Enjoy a guided stroll winding through the historical town, accompanied by local choirs and seasonal entertainment. Live entertainment on street corners and carolling make this a magical night to remember.

7. Niagara-on-the-Lake Rotary Open House – Nov 30

Featuring six beautiful homes seasonally decorated by professional designers, six local landmarks, three wineries offering complimentary wine tastings, and special luncheon offerings. It’s the most attended house tour in the region.

8. Deck the Falls Holiday Walking Tour – Nov 30, Dec 1, 7, 8, 14, 15

This self-guided walking tour allows you to view beautifully decorated venues in Niagara Falls. You can enjoy gourmet food samplings, fun photo opportunities, live music entertainment, holiday beverages, ice sculptures, craft workshops, horse and carriage rides & more!

9. 13th Street Winery Open House – Dec 1

Combine holiday shopping with wine sampling at one of Niagara’s favourite wineries!

10. The Five Elves Yuletide Tour – Dec 1

Here’s a chance to visit 5 wineries and enjoy special events at each – back vintage tastings, food pairings, cocktail ideas, or sleigh rides.

11. Port Dalhousie Christmas Market – Dec 7

This outdoor festival features unique and local handcrafted products sold from European styled wood cabins, A visit from Santa, live entertainment, choirs, Christmas carolling, festive food and beverages, a warming lounge, and more!

12. Christmas Ferris Wheel in Gore Park – Dec 7

Between Dec 7th – 23rd, take a break from your holiday shopping downtown, enjoy a FREE ride on the wheel, and see a whole new view of Downtown Hamilton!

13. 4th Annual Port Dalhousie Lantern Stroll – Dec 8

This year’s lantern stroll starts at 6:00pm at the Lakeside Park Pavilion. $5 per lantern $2 per candle- All proceeds got to Community Care and the Port Dalhousie Beautification and Works Committee.

14. Crooner’s Christmas – Dec 9

Enjoy a flowing performance of Crooner classics dating from the ’50s all the way to the modern Christmas tunes you love to hear during the holiday season. This memorable event will take you back to the Dean Martin, Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra Christmas specials, all the way to current Crooner’s of today like Michael Buble & Harry Connick Jr.
