7 Ways to Experience Niagara’s Icewine Festival

For three weekends in January, visitors from across Canada, and around the world, descend upon the Niagara Region to celebrate the Icewine Festival. One can get dizzy researching the different events happening in the region.  So we put together the must-see/do experiences not to be missed.

Experience Niagara being transformed into a winter wonderland.  Attend many fun events like winter galas, chestnut roasts, ice bars, barrel rolling, winery tours and more!  From casual outdoor events to glitzy nighttime affairs…we have it all!

1. Icewine Discovery Pass – Jan 13-29

There is no better (or cost-effective) way to experience some of Niagara’s best wineries than the Discovery Pass. It’s pretty simple…choose the weekend, pick your fave 8 wineries then sip and savour ice wine & paired food tastings at each winery. The Wine Route Planner is a must-have for this adventure! 

January 13-15, 20-22 & 27-29

Tickets: $40+HST.



2. Twenty Valley Winterfest – January 13-15

Jordan Village is transformed into an Icewine dreamland!  Free admission to the Wine & Culinary Village where you will find cozy fire pits, barrel rolling and live entertainment all weekend long.

More than 20 premium wineries will be on-site along with sample craft ale, artisanal cocktails and local cuisine. Special events include after parties on Friday and Saturday night along with celebrity chef inspired events.  

Samples and special events are an additional cost.



3. The Xerox Icewine Gala – January 13

Don’t want to brave the cold to get your Icewine fix?  Then this event may be for you! Over 100 VQA icewines and table wines from over 35 award winning wineries available to sample accompanied with incredible culinary creations.

Why not treat yourself to an evening of elegance to kick off the 2017 Niagara Icewine Festival?  

This event will be held at the Fallsview Casino Resort.

Early Bird Tickets: $175 (plus HST & fees) until Dec 16th or $185 (plus HST & fees)



4. Sparkle and Ice Diamond Gala – January 20

The Sparkle & Ice Diamond Gala celebrates Niagara-on-the-Lake Icewine-makers and their VQA wines.  By pairing them with icewine-inspired tastings from Signature Kitchen chefs from the Niagara Region. There will also be a draw to win a 21st Anniversary Celebration Diamond which will make this an evening to remember!

This event takes place in the beautiful Grand Hall in the Niagara-on-the-Lake Courthouse and features live musical entertainment.

5. Niagara-on-the-Lake Icewine Village – January 21-22

Niagara-on-the-Lake’s Historic Queen Street is transformed into a winter wonderland as the town comes together to play their part in wine country’s annual Icewine celebration.  Established 22 years ago in Niagara-on-the-Lake, the Festival delivers a warm Winter setting for the 26 Wineries to pour liquid gold.

The renowned Signature Kitchen Chefs will tempt your palate with Icewine inspired culinary creations. Admire the sparkling ice sculptures and when it’s time to warm up, pop into one of the Heritage District’s welcoming Landmark Shops.

Free admission. Wine and culinary samples are available by purchasing tokens at the event.


6.  White on Ice Dinner – Jan 27

Celebrate 22 years of Icewine Festivals at an amazing outdoor dinner at the Icewine Village in Niagara-on-the-Lake. Enjoy the comfort of a heated tent, delicious VQA wines and mouthwatering cuisine from the Signature Kitchen Chefs.

This will be a night to remember with live musical entertainment and dancing under the Winter sky!

Tickets: $100+HST


7. Niagara Falls Icewine Festival – January 27-29

The Scotiabank Convention Centre transforms into a winter wonderland for the 2017 Niagara Falls Icewine Festival. Cozy-up to loved ones as you sip your way through premium VQA Wines and Icewines from over 20 of Niagara’s exceptional wineries. These wines will pair perfectly with the savoury dishes offered by 10 of Niagara’s Top Culinary Chefs.

Niagara’s most entertaining musicians will have you dancing along to your favourite songs. If the party gets a little too toasty inside, take a stroll through the outdoor Icewine Winter Wonderland.  Complete with ice sculptures and lights, you can enjoy all that winter has to offer.

Tickets: $39-$80 (plus HST & fees)



If you have the opportunity to try an icewine marshmallow at any of the events…..DO IT!  Roasting the marshmallow until it is a gooey, sweet mess was a serious highlight for me last year.  Remember, you only live once!
