The Ultimate Hambrgr Feast

Instagram photos can lead you down many paths.  Some good, some not so good. But this time, an extreme close-up of a glistening, juicy burger and fries begging to be dipped in ketchup called out to me.

I was no stranger to the new spot in town called Hambrgr. I have been following their Instagram profile for awhile and knew they had opened a location on St. Paul Street in St. Catharines. But it was this Instagram post by Allison Smith (a local Niagara content developer) that called out to the event coordinator in me to put the planning wheels in motion!!

A day later, I created a Facebook event and recruited 5 wonderful ladies to join me on this foodie adventure! Kristine Srigley from Your Body Health Coach and I had grand plans to do a video/photo shoot. Kristine was going document that you can have a cheat day while maintaining a healthy lifestyle. But upon arrival at the restaurant, we realized that our cell phones were the only equipment we could use.

The place was PACKED!! It was Thursday night and we had called ahead but unfortunately they don’t take reservations. So we arrived at 6pm in hopes we could get in but the wait for our large group was about 45 minutes. Now to be fair, this is not a big restaurant so seating is at a premium and of course, word has spread like wildfire about the newest joint in town!

I have to say, the hostess was so sweet and did an amazing job handling all the folks coming in. I wish I wrote down her name but whoever was working the evening of March 8th…YOU ROCK!

Now, it’s my turn to tempt everybody with my foodie shots. We started with the Fried Pickles described as ‘house breaded and kosher pickle spears’. Now, let’s be clear here…if you don’t like pickles odds are you won’t fancy these. I LOVE pickles so these were a great opening act for what was to come.

We also ordered the Buffalo Cauliflower which Hambrgr describes as “Grana padana tempura, citrus yogurt cream, honey glaze, classic buffalo sauce, pickled jalapeños”. I highly recommend these and they are definitely a shareable item.

Our tummies were pretty full however we eagerly anticipated what was to come!

Here she is in all of her juicy, messy, scrumptious glory! May I present the Le Royale with cheese – “French onions, melted havarti, crispy shoestring potatoes, smoked bacon jam, black truffle & triple crunch aioli”

Let’s take a moment and pay tribute………….

Now let’s get real for a second. What’s a burger without fries or in our case, 3 different types of fries??? The Fry-Fecta gives you a generous sampling of the Classic (coarse sea salt), Gar-Parm (Roasted garlic, grana padano, sea salt) and Piri Piri (zip, zing, pow).

So what’s a lady to do if she doesn’t want a bun with her burger? Then order the lettuce wrap for a $1 up-charge of course. You pretty much get your burger nestled in head of iceburg lettuce.

So we worked our way through our own entrées, some of us finished and some of us didn’t. But we agreed that what happens at Hambrgr, stays at Hambrgr so no names will be mentioned. 🙂

Needless, to say we were beyond full. There were a number of groans and discussion about how we were going to reverse the sins of this feast the next day. BUT, there was one last sprint to go and we had to cross the finish line.

The 8th Deadly Sin Chocolate Shake made its way to our table, with 6 spoons and 6 straws. I would like to rename this “God’s Creation” but nevertheless, it’s described as “Devil’s food brownie, milk chocolate ice cream, dark chocolate ganache, Oreo cookie rim, flaming marshmallow, whipped cream”. Please excuse the burnt marshmallow on top as we should have blown out the flame before it got so black!

Before we rolled ourselves out the door, a group selfie was in order. You can tell by our faces that we are Hambrgr happy!  I wonder what Instagram has in store for us next?

Are there any other local spots you think we should check out?

Cheers!
